The PRD-LC30030B-57 is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. The unit converts three-phase mains power into controlled current that actuates brushless servomotors, allowing precise speed and torque regulation on packaging lines, pick-and-place robots, and other automated machinery. As part of a closed-loop axis, it receives motion commands from higher-level controllers and modulates motor power to maintain the commanded profile under varying load conditions. This closed-loop operation allows the drive to correct changes in motor behavior as operating loads rise or fall.
The drive accepts an analog command range of ±10 VDC, allowing external controllers to issue speed references directly to the current loop. Internally, it provides a ±10 V, 8-bit analog output channel that can return process variables to the PLC. For continuous duty, the inverter supplies 10 A per phase and withstands surges of up to 20 A per phase during acceleration. The input section draws 13 A per phase and converts up to 4.6 kVA into DC-link energy. Pulse-width modulation runs at 16 kHz, balancing acoustic noise and switching loss. Regulation is available through velocity and current control modes, supporting applications that require either speed control or direct torque-producing current control.
The power interface is designed for 230 VAC three-phase supplies, matching common plant distribution systems in compact equipment cells. Once energized, the converter can deliver 3.5 kVA of output to the motor windings while monitoring shaft position through a resolver feedback channel. Position information is retransmitted to external counters through an encoder output that reaches 3 MHz, making it suitable for high-resolution servo loops. Diagnostics are displayed locally on a 7-segment LED array, allowing operating states and fault conditions to be viewed at the drive.
