Designed as a compact current-mode amplifier, it regulates three-phase brushless motors in automated machinery by converting DC-bus power into a sinusoidal output that matches commanded torque and speed. Resolver feedback from the attached motor allows the unit to coordinate the motion controller and actuator, providing precise position, velocity, and current regulation for packaging lines, pick-and-place units, and general factory automation.
During continuous operation, the drive delivers 6 Arms of phase current, while transient demands of up to 30 A are supported by its surge reserve. The current loop refreshes every 62.5 µs at a carrier-synchronized frequency of 16 kHz, providing tight control over the sinusoidal output waveform. Overall switching occurs at 8 kHz, which helps maintain responsive motor-current regulation. An embedded temperature sensor removes power when the heat sink temperature reaches 80 °C (176 °F), and undervoltage shutdown occurs at 90 VDC to protect downstream components. Resolver feedback supplies the absolute rotor angle during each cycle to support accurate commutation. The unit dissipates 80 W of heat through baseplate conduction and forced airflow.
The maximum commutation frequency is 400 Hz, enabling the drive to track high-speed magnetic vectors without excessive phase lag. During overload events, it can supply 12 Arms for two seconds or 18 Arms for 500 milliseconds before returning to its continuous current rating. This temporary current capacity provides additional torque for short acceleration demands. Position updates are processed every 500 µs, while velocity corrections occur every 250 µs. These update intervals correspond to the drive’s 2 kHz position loop and 4 kHz velocity loop, helping reduce following error during coordinated motion. An overvoltage trip at 430 VDC isolates the DC link from regenerative surges caused by abrupt deceleration or power-supply disturbances.
