Product Description:
The PRD-B040SSIz-63 is an AC servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the Servostar CD Drives series. The unit conditions a rectified DC link and modulates it through insulated-gate transistors to energize three-phase servomotors. Inside an automation cell, it forms the power stage that applies commanded torque, velocity, or position, allowing coordinated multi-axis motion when connected to higher-level machine controllers. Resolver feedback from the motor returns the shaft angle so the drive can close its control loops and keep the mechanical load at the position requested by the program.
During continuous operation, the drive can supply 6 A RMS of phase current without causing the motor windings to exceed their thermal limits. The internal current loop is refreshed every 62.5 µs, and those samples are applied to a carrier that switches at 8 kHz; this combination provides low torque ripple and fast disturbance rejection. Control commands arrive over the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, while a resolver mounted on the motor supplies the rotor position. The electronics draw power from a 300 V logic rail. The DC bus has an overvoltage threshold of 430 VDC and an undervoltage cutoff at 90 VDC to protect components against abnormal supply conditions.
During transient events such as acceleration, the drive can deliver a peak current of 12 A RMS for two seconds and up to 18 A RMS for 500 milliseconds, permitting short bursts of torque without sustained heating. The position loop closes every 500 µs, matching the dynamic capability of the supported Kollmorgen Goldline submersible motor family. The housing measures 256.0 mm in height, 83.3 mm in width, and 163.0 mm in depth. The assembly weighs 2.22 kg, which reduces the mounting load within a control panel. A field-replaceable 15 A main input fuse limits fault energy, while the pulse-width modulation stage and control sections use convection cooling inside the enclosure.
