The PRD-B040SAIB-62 is a digital servo amplifier produced by Kollmorgen within the CD Servostar CD Drives series. Designed for integration into multi-axis machinery, the unit conditions DC bus power and provides phase-modulated output to synchronous or induction servomotors, enabling closed-loop motion control in automated packaging lines, pick-and-place gantries, and material-handling fixtures. Resolver feedback from the connected motor is processed internally, so the drive can execute current, velocity, and position loops without external signal converters.
It delivers a continuous output of 6 Arms and can supply 12 Arms for two-second bursts or 18 Arms for 500 ms transients when the machine demands rapid acceleration. The output stage tolerates a maximum surge of 30 A without tripping. Current regulation refreshes every 62.5 µs, while the velocity loop updates every 250 µs and the position loop updates every 500 µs, allowing tight servo stiffness. Commutation vectors are synthesized up to 400 Hz. These vectors are pulse-width modulated at 8 kHz, and internal motor ripple compensation operates at a 16 kHz carrier to minimize torque ripple. A 0.25-second soft-start charge interval precharges the DC bus capacitance, reducing inrush stress on upstream power supplies.
The DC link is monitored, and the drive shuts down above 430 VDC or below 90 VDC to protect semiconductors from abnormal power conditions. An internal sensor disables the gate drive at 80 °C, and continuous operation dissipates up to 80 W of heat through the housing fins. The amplifier has a total mass of 2.22 kg, allowing installation in lightweight modular panels without imposing excessive load on the mounting surface. Resolver feedback verification provides an additional safeguard against invalid position data. Detected faults remain latched until the underlying condition clears, preventing automatic operation while a monitored problem is still present.
