Internal Product Review
The PRD-B040EAIC-A2 is a Kollmorgen CD Servostar servo drive with an analog control interface and resolver feedback. Steady motion performance comes from 10 Arms continuous current and 0.01% velocity regulation, making the drive well suited for precise axis control. Reliable power handling is reinforced by 230 VAC main supply operation and 20 Arms peak current, a strong combination for demanding servo applications.

Product Description:
The PRD-B040EAIC-A2 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the SERVOSTAR CD Drives series. The unit conditions three-phase power and regulates torque, velocity, and position for a connected brushless motor in automated machinery. It connects to motion controllers through an analog command interface and interprets shaft position through a resolver feedback channel, providing deterministic control for indexing tables, pick-and-place axes, and similar industrial applications.
This drive supplies a continuous output current of 10 A RMS while drawing energy from a 230 VAC three-phase supply. Its internal modulator switches at 8 kHz, allowing smooth current waveforms with minimal audible noise. Closed-loop speed error is limited to 0.01%, so conveyor or spindle speed remains nearly constant under changing loads. During normal operation, the electronics dissipate 132 W of heat that must be removed by cabinet airflow. The logic section is powered by an external 24 VDC feed, and the fault relay can switch 1 A to signal protective circuits. The drive accepts current surges of up to 30 A for short transients. The three-phase input must remain within the permitted voltage range to prevent a protective shutdown.
For rapid acceleration, the amplifier can deliver a peak output current of 20 A RMS for 500 ms without exceeding its thermal limits. Protective thresholds include an overvoltage trip at 430 VDC, an undervoltage cutoff at 90 VDC, and an overtemperature limit of 80 °C at the heat sink sensors. The protection logic uses these thresholds to shut down the power stage during abnormal supply or temperature conditions. The enclosure weighs 2.69 kg, which reduces the mounting load in control panels and gantry-mounted cabinets. Its compact mass also makes the drive easier to position in crowded enclosures while maintaining adequate space around the housing for ventilation.
