Product Description:
The PRD-B040EAIB-A3 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. In an automated cell, this unit sits between a three-phase mains supply and a resolver-equipped servomotor, converting fixed-frequency power into controlled current that governs torque and velocity. By closing the loop around motor position and current, the drive stabilizes motion profiles required for indexing tables, pick-and-place axes, or packaging spindles.
The current regulator updates every 62.5 µs, so the drive can track command changes without appreciable delay. A commutation ceiling of 400 Hz lets it run motors with high electrical frequencies while sustaining smooth torque. Continuous output is rated at 10 A RMS, which supports steady-state load demand, while line-side consumption reaches 3.5 kVA at 230 VAC. Long-term speed error is limited to 0.01%, allowing precise positioning over extended production runs. Internally, pulse-width modulation is generated at 8 kHz and produces a 16 kHz ripple that the motor’s inductance filters. Thermal losses amount to 132 W and are removed by panel convection or cabinet airflow. The main input requires a 230 VAC three-phase source. A dry-contact relay rated at 1 A and 24 VDC reports drive or motor faults to the safety circuit.
For transient moves, the inverter can deliver 20 A RMS for a limited duration based on the acceleration profile. The drive can sustain this peak for up to 2 seconds under the applicable operating conditions, while a 500 ms interval may apply to more demanding acceleration cycles. Protection activates when the bus rises above 430 VDC, falls below 90 VDC, or when the heat-sink temperature reaches 80 °C. The resolver input supplies the absolute rotor angle, enabling commutation without an incremental encoder. The drive has a mass of 2.69 kg, which simplifies wall or backplate mounting and reduces the load placed on the cabinet structure.
