The PRD-B040EAIB-33 is a servo amplifier from Kollmorgen’s Servostar CD Drives series. Designed to regulate current and velocity in brushless motors, the unit converts incoming AC power and command references into the modulated phase currents required for industrial automation axes. By combining power electronics, an analog control section, and resolver feedback processing, the drive forms the link between a motion controller and the mechanical load. It supplies precise torque and speed regulation for packaging, material-handling, and assembly equipment.
The drive delivers a continuous output of 3 A RMS and can supply short-term bursts of 6 A RMS for two seconds or 9 A RMS for 500 milliseconds to accommodate acceleration demands. It accepts mains power from 110 to 230 VAC through either single-phase or three-phase supplies. Control commands arrive through a ±10 V analog input, while auxiliary digital inputs operate from 12 to 24 V. Motor position data is returned through a resolver, allowing the amplifier to regulate motor current and velocity in response to the measured shaft position. The control loop is tuned through an analog interface, and the drive does not include embedded fieldbus functions.
The power section operates with a PWM carrier frequency of 16 kHz and accepts mains frequencies from 47 to 63 Hz. Internal losses reach 60 W at the rated load, and a temperature sensor disables the gate drive if the heat sink reaches 80 °C. The DC link is monitored for excess energy and trips at 430 VDC, while a supply level below 90 VDC triggers an undervoltage shutdown. These protections prevent the power stage from operating outside its supported voltage range. A Form C relay rated at 1 A and 24 VDC signals drive or motor faults to an external controller, allowing the connected control system to stop motion or report the condition.
