The PRD-B040ASIz-C2 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the Servostar CD Drives series. It supplies regulated three-phase current to Kollmorgen’s Goldline submersible motor family and communicates with higher-level controls through a SERCOS fiber-optic link. By combining power conversion with digital loop processing, the drive enables accurate speed and position regulation for industrial axes used in washdown, pumping, and general motion applications. Its control architecture supports coordinated operation where responsive torque delivery and reliable communication are required.
The power stage can deliver a continuous output of 20 A RMS per phase and can surge to 40 A RMS per phase during rapid acceleration or load transients. When supplied by 230 VAC mains power, it draws up to 6.8 kW and provides a usable motor output of 5.2 kW, matching the thermal capacity of the submersible motor frame. Current is modulated at a carrier frequency of 8 kHz, while the internal current loop operates at 16 kHz to support low torque ripple and responsive operation. Resolver feedback closes the velocity loop, while the SERCOS interface transfers position, diagnostic, and parameter data to the motion controller. Fault contacts rated for 1 A provide hardwired status signals, and the regeneration circuit activates when the DC bus rises above 385 VDC to route excess energy to a braking resistor.
The control electronics use a separate 24 VDC logic supply, allowing fieldbus communication and memory functions to remain active when mains power is removed. Thermal sensors initiate an overtemperature trip at 80 °C, protecting the power electronics from excessive heat. Bus monitoring removes the gating pulses if the voltage exceeds 400 VDC, while a 100 VDC undervoltage limit protects the drive during brownouts. A maximum surge current of 200 A accommodates inrush as the DC link charges. Passive cooling must dissipate 330 W under full load, so the installation must provide adequate airflow around the drive. The 1 A relay output communicates latched fault conditions to external controllers without requiring additional interface hardware.
