Product Description:
The PRD-B040AAIB-A3 is a digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. The unit interfaces between a plant’s three-phase mains supply and a brushless servo motor, modulating current to follow torque commands from a motion controller. Within automated assembly stations, packaging lines, and material-handling axes, the drive processes control signals, monitors resolver feedback, and delivers phase-aligned output that keeps position and speed within the permitted error bands. This closed-loop operation allows the connected motor to respond accurately to changing motion commands and mechanical loads.
Analog control accuracy is supported by its 14-bit input converter, which provides 16,384 discrete command levels for velocity or torque. The current loop closes every 62.5 µs, allowing the drive to correct disturbances quickly in systems with stiff mechanical couplings. Pulse-width modulation operates at 8 kHz, helping regulate the waveform supplied to the motor windings and limit current ripple. Continuous phase current is rated at 10 A RMS per phase, enabling the drive to support medium-frame motors without exceeding its continuous current capacity. The available shaft power reaches 3.5 kW for sustained production duty under suitable operating conditions.
Thermal losses are rated at 132 W, a value that can be used when determining enclosure airflow and heat dissipation requirements for installations containing multiple drives. The power stage disables if the DC bus rises above 430 VDC, protecting connected equipment from excessive bus voltage. It also disables below 90 VDC to prevent improper operation during an undervoltage condition. A peak phase current of 20 A RMS per phase can be delivered for three seconds from a 230 VAC, 13 A line before the protection timers reduce the output. The housing weighs 2.69 kg and measures 99.1 mm across, allowing it to be rack-mounted beside other Servostar modules while conserving panel space.
