The PRD-AM40ASIZ-A2 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. Designed as the power stage for Goldline submersible synchronous motors, the module accepts three-phase mains power and generates controlled output pulses that the motor windings convert into mechanical torque. Resolver feedback from the motor returns position and speed data to the controller, allowing precise closed-loop regulation. This control supports applications such as packaging lines, indexing tables, and submerged pump systems where compact drives and reliable washdown compatibility are essential.
On the input side, the drive is rated for a three-phase supply of 230 VAC and draws up to 13 A under nominal load. A 15 A line fuse protects the rectifier against short circuits, while overall demand remains within an apparent power envelope of 4.6 kVA. Inside the inverter, a PWM bridge operating at 8 kHz modulates the DC link, with current ripple occurring at 16 kHz. At the motor terminals, the amplifier can deliver a continuous output of 10 Arms with an apparent output power of 3.5 kVA. For rapid acceleration or transient disturbances, the current loop allows peaks of up to 20 Arms for short intervals without losing control linearity.
The power electronics dissipate 132 W as heat, so enclosure airflow or a heat sink must remove this loss to keep the internal temperature below the overtemperature threshold. Thermal monitoring trips the drive at 80 °C, and the module must cool before it can be re-energized. The DC bus is protected by an overvoltage limit of 430 VDC and an undervoltage cutoff at 90 VDC, preventing operation outside the safe energy range. A dedicated fault relay rated at 1 A reports these conditions to external control circuits and initiates a stop for the connected machinery.
