The PRD-AM40ASIC-A2 is a digital servo amplifier produced by Kollmorgen within the CD Servostar CD Drives series. By modulating a three-phase supply, the unit delivers controlled power to Goldline submersible servomotors used for positioning and speed regulation. In automated machinery, it serves as the interface between motion controllers and the motor windings, shaping voltage and current in response to resolver feedback.
With a three-phase 230 VAC mains connection, the converter processes up to 4.6 kVA of input power and delivers a continuous output of 3.5 kVA. Under nominal conditions, it draws 13 A and supplies 10 Arms to the motor. Short 500 ms bursts reach 20 Arms and are controlled by a carrier switching frequency of 8 kHz, which affects the current ripple and acoustic profile. Resolver position data are sampled during each PWM cycle so the current loops remain aligned with the rotor flux. Internal IGBT losses and control electronics produce 132 W of heat that must be conducted to the enclosure wall. A 15 A line fuse protects the upstream supply.
The braking stage channels surplus energy onto a DC bus stabilized at 325 VDC. Protective limits place the undervoltage trip at 90 VDC and the overvoltage shutdown at 430 VDC, helping prevent controller or motor damage during mains disturbances or regenerative events. Thermal protection activates at 80 °C, so enclosure cooling must keep the heat sink below that threshold during continuous duty. The resolver interface supports the single-turn transducers fitted to Goldline submersible motors, maintaining sinusoidal commutation even when cable lengths vary. With a mass of 2.69 kg, the amplifier is suitable for panel-door mounting while remaining rigid enough for baseplate installation alongside additional Servostar modules on shared bus bars.
