The PRD-AG50000z-06 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. The module converts a regulated DC bus into a three-phase output that controls brushless servomotors used in packaging lines, material-handling axes, and general automation. By integrating power electronics, I/O, and protection functions, the unit provides closed-loop velocity and torque regulation so a higher-level controller can execute precise motion profiles. As a standalone chassis-mount assembly, it fits into multi-axis cabinets where space is limited and standardized wiring is important.
Its power stage is rated for a DC-link voltage of 300 V, and the drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 6 A RMS. During acceleration bursts lasting up to 500 ms, it supplies 18 A RMS so that motors can overcome inertia without requiring an oversized drive. Carrier switching occurs at 16 kHz, balancing acoustic noise against switching losses. The resulting losses produce 80 W of internal heat that must be removed by cabinet airflow. Analog command voltages enter through a 12-bit converter, providing 4,096 discrete levels for fine torque control. All control and signal electronics draw power from an isolated external supply of 24 VDC, keeping the logic functional even if the main bus is de-energized. Resolver feedback is decoded by the digital signal processor, enabling accurate electrical-angle calculations for the current and velocity control loops.
Integrated protection responds quickly to electrical and thermal faults. An overcurrent latch activates at 53 A, and the drive removes gate signals if the DC bus rises above 430 VDC or falls below the 90 VDC undervoltage threshold. Operation also stops when the heat sink reaches 80 °C. Eight digital inputs and four digital outputs support external sequencing and status signaling. Two RS-422 ports provide serial communication for diagnostics and online tuning, while a fault relay rated at 1 A can open the safety contactor when a trip condition occurs.
