The PRD-0050R00Z-06 is a compact servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. The device converts the fixed energy from a shared DC link into a controlled three-phase output for brushless motors and relies on resolver feedback to close the current, velocity, and position loops. It serves as an axis controller in packaging machines, pick-and-place gantries, and similar automation systems.
Connected to a DC link of 325 VDC, the drive’s internal 300 V power stage is modulated by a PWM carrier at 8 kHz; ripple components at 16 kHz remain below motor insulation limits. During steady operation, it delivers a continuous phase current of 6 Arms, while short load peaks of up to 18 Arms for 500 ms support rapid acceleration. Excess regenerative energy is routed to an integral shunt rated for 200 W and protected by a minimum resistance of 20 Ω. With 0.00164 F of DC-link capacitance and 80 W of internal heat generation, the housing requires forced-air cabinet cooling. Logic functions are powered by an external 24 VDC supply, and a 1 A fault relay provides a hardwired system shutdown. Despite these capabilities, the assembly weighs only 2.22 kg, easing installation in multi-axis panel layouts.
Protective thresholds are factory set: an overvoltage trip activates at 430 VDC to guard the IGBTs, and an undervoltage cutoff engages when the bus falls below 90 VDC to prevent control loss. Thermal monitoring disconnects the power stage when the heat sink reaches 80 °C. The fault relay uses the same trip logic and switches up to 1 A, allowing the drive to signal a protective shutdown through a hardwired circuit. Resolver input processing supports accurate motor commutation during rapid speed and load changes. The DC-link capacitor helps stabilize bus voltage when current demand changes, while forced airflow removes heat generated by the power electronics. The 16 kHz current-ripple component also helps limit audible motor noise during operation.
