The PRD-0050R00J-03 servo drive is manufactured by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. This closed-loop power module conditions a 300 V DC bus and feeds three-phase current to matched servomotors. It provides precise position, velocity, and torque regulation in automated printing lines, robotic pick-and-place cells, and other motion-centric equipment.
System coordination is handled through the high-speed SynqNet interface, so multiple axes share a common clock without additional wiring. A built-in fault relay changes state in 3 ms when energized and releases in 2 ms; its contacts carry up to 1 A, giving external safety logic a clean hardware signal. Rotor angle feedback is accepted from a resolver, which resists electrical noise and operates over a wide temperature range. During rated operation, the electronics dissipate 60 W, and ventilation must remove this heat to avoid derating. Control logic is powered by an external 24 VDC supply, allowing the drive to report faults even when the main DC bus is absent. Continuous output is 3 A RMS, while short overloads reach 6 A RMS for 2 seconds or 9 A RMS for 500 milliseconds. The pulse-width modulation stage switches at 16 kHz to minimize motor noise. Overvoltage protection activates when the bus exceeds 430 VDC. An undervoltage trip at 90 VDC prevents erratic modulation if the supply collapses.
Overcurrent protection uses a threshold of 53 A, shutting down the transistors before their ratings are exceeded. Thermal monitoring activates at 80 °C to help prevent insulation damage and rotor demagnetization. These protective cutoffs coordinate with the relay timing so field wiring, contactors, and upstream fuses can interrupt power quickly. The drive accepts resolver signals directly, which allows the control loop to monitor rotor position without a separate feedback converter. Its overload capacity supports brief acceleration demands while the continuous current rating governs sustained motor operation.
