The PRD-0030030z-35 servo drive is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the Servostar CD Drives series. It regulates three-phase permanent-magnet motors in automated machinery by converting power from a regulated DC bus into pulse-width-modulated phase currents. Resolver feedback supplies real-time rotor position data, allowing the internal control loops to regulate torque and velocity accurately. A dedicated 230 V logic supply powers the control electronics separately from the high-energy switching circuits, simplifying integration with PLC-based motion platforms used in packaging, textile, and electronic assembly lines.
During continuous operation, the unit delivers 3 A RMS of phase current and provides 1.1 kW of electrical output at the motor terminals. The internal DC-link voltage is maintained at 325 VDC. The IGBT bridge switches this voltage at a carrier frequency of 16 kHz to limit torque ripple and audible noise. Short acceleration cycles are supported by a peak current of 6 A RMS for up to two seconds. Thermal monitoring shuts down the drive if its temperature reaches 80 °C. A braking resistor with a minimum resistance of 20 Ω can be connected to absorb energy returned by the motor during deceleration. For applications with higher regenerative duty, the ERH-26 regeneration option supports 200 W of continuous dissipation through an external resistor network.
Several voltage safeguards protect the DC link during operation. An overvoltage trip occurs at 430 VDC, while operation is inhibited below an undervoltage threshold of 90 VDC to preserve control stability. Regenerative braking activates when the bus reaches 390 VDC and disengages at 370 VDC, reducing resistor heating after the returned energy has been dissipated. For moves with high inertial demand, the current ceiling increases to 9 A RMS for 500 milliseconds, giving the axis enough short-term current to accelerate the load without triggering unnecessary faults.
