The CR20561 is a Kollmorgen servo amplifier in the Servostar CD Drives series. As part of the Compact Drive family, it converts a 230 VAC supply into controlled three-phase output for brushless motors used in packaging lines, conveyors, and pick-and-place axes. Motion commands arrive through the SERCOS fieldbus, and resolver feedback closes the control loop, allowing coordinated speed and position control within distributed automation cells.
Its DC bus is held at 325 VDC, giving the power stage sufficient voltage margin for rapid torque changes. During normal operation, the drive supplies 20 A per phase, supporting mechanical output up to 5.2 kW. The line input draws 6.8 kW because of conversion losses and control overhead. For short acceleration periods, the current limit rises to 40 A per phase. Pulse-width modulation occurs at 8 kHz, reducing motor noise and magnetic flux ripple. Resolver data are sampled during each carrier cycle so the controller can produce finely graded velocity or position profiles. This continuous output capacity supports the torque demands of medium-frame servo motors used with 450 mm belt axes and rotary indexers.
Protective circuits monitor energy, voltage, and heat during operation. The inverter shuts down when the bus rises above 400 VDC or falls below 100 VDC, helping prevent damage to power-stage components. A core temperature of 80 °C also triggers a stop, while the control electronics remain powered by a separate 24 VDC logic rail. Regenerative energy is limited by an internal chopper that activates near 385 VDC and handles 45 A, preventing unwanted voltage increases during deceleration. Continuous switching dissipates 330 W, while the 4 kg enclosure fits standard control panels and relies on vertical mounting for airflow. Proper cabinet ventilation keeps the internal assemblies below their long-term temperature limit of 40 °C during continuous production shifts.
