The CR10704 is a compact digital servo drive manufactured by Kollmorgen within the CD Servostar CD Drives series. Designed as part of the Compact Drive family, it interfaces between a three-phase mains supply and a brushless servo motor, regulating torque and speed in automated machinery such as pick-and-place stations and packaging lines. Resolver feedback closes the control loop directly inside the unit, so no external encoder interface is required.
Internally, the power stage uses a DC bus held at 325 VDC, giving the transistors sufficient headroom for fast current transitions. With a continuous phase current of 10 A per phase, the drive can sustain rated torque under a steady load, while a peak capability of 20 A RMS supports acceleration or sudden load changes without saturation. The input bridge accepts a three-phase utility supply of 230 VAC; at that voltage, the converter draws up to 13 A per phase and processes as much as 3.5 kVA of output power for the motor. Pulse-width modulation occurs at 8 kHz, minimizing audible noise while keeping switching losses moderate. Because input apparent power reaches 4.6 kVA, cabinet wiring and circuit breakers must be sized for that demand.
The DC bus trips at 430 VDC to prevent component overstress and at 90 VDC to protect against control loss during brownouts. Resolver feedback connects through a dedicated port that is isolated from the power section to reduce noise coupling.
