Product Description:

The CR10661 servo drive is built by Kollmorgen within the CD Servostar CD Drives series. As part of the Compact Drive family, it converts fixed three-phase mains power into precisely modulated output for brushless servomotors. The unit supports resolver feedback and is intended for tightly coordinated motion axes in assembly cells, packaging equipment, and general automation where consistent torque and speed regulation are required. This arrangement allows the drive to respond closely to command changes during positioning and speed-control tasks.

It operates from a nominal input of 230 VAC on a 3-phase supply and continuously draws 13 A while its output stage delivers a rated 10 A to the motor. Short-term overload capability reaches 20 Arms, enabling acceleration or rapid indexing without drive saturation during brief demand peaks. Command data and diagnostics move over the SERCOS interface, and the power transistors switch at 8 kHz to limit current ripple and audible noise. A resolver channel closes the velocity loop, and the 4.6 kVA apparent input power suits medium-size actuators. Cabinet ventilation must remove 132 W of internally dissipated heat to keep internal components within their temperature range. Logic functions remain active from an external logic supply, which helps maintain communication status if the main input supply is interrupted.

The power section includes several protective thresholds. Over-voltage shutdown occurs at 430 VDC, and supply sag below 90 VDC triggers an undervoltage fault that disables output. Regenerated energy is diverted to an external braking element whose resistance cannot be less than 20 Ω, and conduction begins once the bus climbs to 390 VDC to control DC-link rise during deceleration. Thermal surveillance opens the output at 80 °C measured on the heat sink. Control electronics require a stable 24 VDC logic feed, so a separate auxiliary supply is needed when communication or controlled stopping must remain active during a mains loss.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The CR10661 is a Kollmorgen compact drive with a SERCOS control interface and resolver feedback. A 230 VAC nominal input and 10 Amp rated current make the unit a practical fit for well-matched servo applications. A 20 Arms peak output current stands out as a strong performance advantage for demanding motion profiles.’’
