Internal Product Review

The CR10660-JW is a Kollmorgen CD Servostar compact drive with an analog control interface and resolver feedback. Three-phase input and a 10 A rated current support stable, consistent servo operation in demanding motion systems. A 20 Arms peak output current and 8 kHz PWM frequency make this drive a strong choice for responsive control.

Product Description:

The CR10660-JW servo amplifier is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the Servostar CD Drives series within the Compact Drive product family. Intended for cabinet installation, the unit regulates current and velocity for low-inductance motors by processing analog command signals and resolver feedback. In automated handling, packaging, or indexing stations, it forms the link between the motion controller and the motor, delivering closed-loop torque control in a housing that is 256.0 mm tall and 99.1 mm wide.

The drive accepts a three-phase mains supply and modulates its output with a carrier set to 8 kHz. Under continuous duty, the power stage supplies 10 A RMS of current, while short bursts of up to 20 A RMS for 500 ms accommodate acceleration peaks. Internal power loss is 132 W, so forced-air cabinet ventilation is recommended. The analog control interface presents a differential ±10 V command input, and resolver feedback closes the current and velocity loops. Enable, inhibit, and reset lines are energized through an external 24 V DC logic rail. The unit is optimized for low-inductance motors. A braking resistor with a minimum resistance of 20 Ω must be fitted to absorb regenerated energy.

An internal sensor shuts down the inverter at 80 °C, protecting the power semiconductors from excessive heat. The DC-link monitor trips if the voltage rises above 430 V DC, and operation is also inhibited whenever the bus drops below 90 V DC, protecting the control electronics from undervoltage. These fault thresholds act without external intervention and are cleared by cycling the power after the cause of the fault has been corrected. The drive has a mass of 2.69 kg, allowing it to mount on light-gauge panels while keeping the cabinet load low. Adequate clearance must be provided around the integrated heat sink and fan channels so the drive can dissipate heat effectively.
