The CR10550 is a servo drive built by Kollmorgen for the Servostar CD Drives series. As a member of the Compact Drive product family, it regulates current, velocity, and position loops to operate brushless motors in automated machinery. The drive converts incoming electrical power into controlled motor current while processing motion commands from a higher-level controller. This closed-loop architecture supports coordinated movement in positioning systems, material-handling equipment, and other industrial applications. An internal 300 V logic rail supplies the control electronics independently of the motor output stage.
The power section accepts a 230 VAC three-phase input and supplies 10 A of continuous output current to the motor. Motion commands enter through an analog ±10 VDC interface that is digitized with 14-bit resolution, allowing precise speed or torque references. Current-loop corrections are calculated at up to 2.5 kHz, while the drive refreshes its PWM stage at 16 kHz to limit ripple and preserve dynamic response. A resolver provides position feedback using 4.25 VAC excitation and a 2 VAC return signal. The resolver windings must maintain a resistance below 120 Ω for proper signal processing. Position commands are updated rapidly so that coordinated axes can operate with limited phase lag during changes in speed or load.
During transient events, the inverter can deliver a peak current of 20 A rms for acceleration and brief overload demands. Velocity corrections operate with a loop bandwidth of 400 Hz, and a separate 4000 Hz update cycle helps minimize overshoot. The integrated fault relay switches up to 1 A at 24 VDC, allowing connection to hardware interlocks or alarm devices. Temperature and bus-status information is also communicated through the relay logic to support fault monitoring. Hardware-based resolver-loss detection identifies missing feedback before uncontrolled motion can continue. A position update rate of 2000 Hz helps the host controller recognize stalls and respond quickly to motion errors. These monitoring functions support orderly shutdown behavior when the drive detects a feedback, temperature, or bus-related fault.
