The CR06703 is a compact digital drive manufactured by Kollmorgen for the Servostar CD Drives series. Classified within the Compact Drive product family, it provides current, velocity, and position regulation for resolver-equipped servo axes used in automated assembly cells, packaging lines, and similar motion systems. By modulating a sinusoidal output waveform through pulse-width switching, the drive translates low-level control commands into motor phase power. This operation allows higher-level controllers to manage permanent-magnet motors in industrial automation systems. Resolver feedback supplies the rotor position data required for closed-loop control during changes in speed, torque, and mechanical load.
The drive delivers a continuous phase current of 6 A, providing sufficient capacity for standard servo tasks. Reserve output is available through a short-term capability of 12 A RMS for two seconds and 18 A RMS for 500 milliseconds to support acceleration peaks. A protective 30 A surge limit helps prevent device damage during inrush events, while a 15 A line fuse protects the upstream supply. Current regulation is refreshed every 62.5 µs. The velocity loop closes every 250 µs, and the position loop closes every 500 µs, keeping dynamic error low across the operating speed range. The switching bridge operates at 8 kHz, generating a sinusoidal output waveform that reduces motor noise and torque ripple.
Thermal and electrical protections are integrated to keep application wiring uncomplicated. Internal power losses reach 80 W at full load, and an overtemperature sensor disconnects the output stage when the heat sink reaches 80 °C. DC-bus monitoring triggers a shutdown below 90 VDC to prevent control dropout and above 430 VDC to protect the drive from regenerative overvoltage. A soft-start circuit limits inrush current by precharging the bus capacitance within 0.25 seconds. This controlled charging process reduces stress on the input components when power is applied. Position feedback remains active during these protective transitions, allowing the servo axis to resume accurate motion after the voltage and temperature return to acceptable operating levels.
