The CR06551 is a digital servo amplifier built by Kollmorgen for the Servostar CD Drives series. As part of the manufacturer’s Compact Drive concept, it combines power electronics and motion-control firmware in a small panel-mount frame. The unit regulates the torque, velocity, and position of connected brushless servomotors, providing closed-loop automation capabilities for packaging machines, pick-and-place axes, and other industrial equipment.
The analog command converter provides 14-bit resolution, allowing 16,384 discrete torque references before processing. Motion commands arrive over the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, providing deterministic network timing and resistance to electrical noise. Inside the drive, the current regulator sustains a bandwidth of 2.5 kHz with an update period of 62.5 µs at 16 kHz, enabling rapid rejection of load disturbances. During acceleration, the power stage can supply a peak phase current of 18 A, while the continuous rating is 6 A, permitting intermittent overload without thermal shutdown. Position corrections are applied at 2000 Hz and coordinate with interpolated setpoints generated by the machine controller.
Rotor angle feedback is delivered by a resolver, and the drive excites the transducer with 4.25 VAC at up to 55 mA RMS. The secondary produces 2 VAC, and the winding resistance is limited to 120 ohms to maintain signal fidelity. A transformation ratio of 0.47 matches the resolver voltage to the input stage. Velocity regulation is handled by a loop with a small-signal bandwidth of 400 Hz. The associated speed estimator and filter operate at 4000 Hz to keep phase lag low. Under these conditions, the control chain achieves a worst-case positioning error of 19 arc-minutes, meeting the accuracy requirements of medium-precision indexing tasks.
