Product Description:

The CR03551 is a compact digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the Servostar CD Drives series. It powers and regulates brushless servo motors by converting fixed mains power into a controlled DC bus and modulated motor output for accurate position, speed, and torque control. These capabilities support factory automation lines, pick-and-place modules, and material-handling axes. The drive fits control cabinets with 24 V systems and supports multi-axis installations that require compact dimensions and consistent electrical performance.

The drive exchanges commands over the SERCOS optical bus, providing deterministic timing and simplified daisy-chain wiring. A stabilized bus of 325 VDC feeds the output stage. Continuous motor current is limited to 3 A, while short bursts can reach 9 A for 0.5 seconds. The output stage switches at 16 kHz, reducing torque ripple and acoustic noise. Resolver feedback closes the control loop, and a separate 300 V rail supplies the control logic. A 10 A fuse provides line protection against excessive current. Packaged in the Compact Drive family format, the unit measures 67.3 mm in width and weighs 1.61 kg, allowing it to fit into dense panel layouts without requiring excessive mounting space.

The heat sink must dissipate 60 W during full-load operation to keep the power electronics within their operating range. When the motor returns energy during deceleration, the internal braking circuit can handle 200 W when an external resistor of at least 20 Ω is installed. A thermal safety trip isolates the drive if the heat sink temperature reaches 80 °C. Additional protection responds if the bus voltage rises above 430 VDC or falls below 90 VDC. These protective thresholds limit stress on the power semiconductors during rapid deceleration and fluctuations in mains power. Normal pulse-width modulation continues while the bus voltage and heat sink temperature remain within the permitted operating limits.
