The CR03550 servo amplifier is manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the CD Servostar CD Drives series. This compact drive regulates current, velocity, and position for brushless servomotors in industrial automation tasks such as packaging axes and material-handling gantries. By converting fixed mains power into controlled three-phase output power and executing multiple control loops, the unit allows precise motion sequencing through analog command signals and resolver feedback. Its compact format supports installation in control cabinets where available mounting space is limited.
The drive accepts 115/230 VAC in single- or three-phase configurations, allowing the controller to operate from a single-phase test bench or standard three-phase plant mains without extensive wiring changes. Its single analog input is digitized at 14 bits, so small voltage changes at the ±10 V interface translate into fine torque commands. The current loop has a bandwidth of 2.5 kHz and an update rate of 16 kHz, providing fast rejection of load disturbances while keeping switching losses modest. The rated continuous output current is 3 A, which is suitable for low-to-medium-inertia servo axes such as index tables or small conveyors. Six digital inputs and one digital output provide discrete handshaking with external safety, homing, and enable circuits without requiring external relays.
The velocity control loop has a bandwidth of 400 Hz, and the controller refreshes the velocity integrator at 4,000 Hz to maintain accurate speed tracking during rapid reversals. Position commands are processed at a rate of 2,000 Hz, allowing the drive to follow fine rotary encoder increments without excessive lag. Up to 16 steps can be stored in the internal motion buffer, enabling short point-to-point sequences to run locally during fieldbus interruptions. A 0.5-second peak-current window permits brief bursts of high torque when the connected axis accelerates or encounters a temporary load increase. Resolver feedback supplies continuous rotor-angle information for accurate electronic commutation across the connected motor’s operating range.
