The CE03550 drive is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the CD Servostar CD Drives series within the Compact Drive product family. As a digitally controlled amplifier, it supplies regulated three-phase power to servo motors used in packaging lines, pick-and-place stations, and other industrial axes that demand high positional accuracy. The unit relies on encoder feedback to close its internal control loops and deliver precise torque, velocity, and position regulation during dynamic machine cycles. This operating method allows the drive to respond to changes in command input and load while maintaining stable motion across indexing, contouring, and repeated start-stop movement.
The analog command channel has a resolution of 14 bits, allowing fine reference scaling before the signal is processed by the current regulator. That regulator has a bandwidth of 2.5 kHz and is updated at 16 kHz, so commanded and actual motor current can be corrected very quickly. For brief overloads, the amplifier can source up to 9 A rms for a maximum of 0.5 s, while its continuous rating is 3 A rms. The velocity loop reaches 400 Hz with an update rate of 4000 Hz, and the position loop runs at 2000 Hz, which helps the drive follow rapid command changes without excessive lag on lightly damped mechanical systems.
The encoder interface supplies 5 VDC at up to 250 mA and accepts differential quadrature feedback. Cable runs can extend to 50 ft (15 m), and the receiver can track incremental streams up to 12 MHz post-quadrature or 3 MHz pre-quadrature. A maximum of 10,000,000 lines per revolution can be decoded, which supports very high resolution linear and rotary scales. This feedback arrangement supports accurate position updates, smooth speed transitions, and reliable signal handling when the drive is paired with compatible encoder-equipped motors.
