The CB20560 is a servo drive produced by Kollmorgen for the CD Servostar CD Drives series. As a member of the Compact Drive product family, it supplies current, velocity, and position regulation for brushless servomotors used in industrial automation cells, packaging machinery, and material-handling axes. By combining power electronics with a sine-encoder feedback interface, the unit closes multiple control loops that keep motor torque and speed matched to real-time machine demands.
The drive accepts a line supply of 3-phase 110 V/phase and can provide a continuous output of 20 A, with headroom to reach 40 A for 2 s during rapid indexing or load shocks. An internal converter samples command inputs through a 14-bit A/D section and refreshes the current loop every 62.5 µs. Pulse-width modulation occurs at 16 kHz to minimize ripple in the motor current. Commanding is analog, supported by one analog input and one analog output, while six digital inputs and a single digital output allow enable, step, and fault signals to be exchanged with the PLC. The 16-step motion buffer lets simple point-to-point moves execute locally, reducing controller overhead during repetitive sequences.
Higher-level regulation is handled inside the controller. The velocity loop updates every 250 µs, and the position loop updates every 500 µs, so following error stays small even when trajectories change quickly. Logic and interface circuits are powered from an external 24 VDC supply, which keeps feedback monitoring active through mains dropouts. One sine-encoder input provides high-resolution rotor position data, while the single digital output can report drive-ready or fault status to external relays. The analog command path and mixed I/O set allow the unit to fit control systems that rely on conventional PLC wiring.
