The CB06561 is a servo amplifier manufactured by Kollmorgen as part of the CD Servostar CD Drives series. Classified in the Compact Drive product family, the unit provides regulated torque, speed, and position control for brushless AC motors used throughout automated production cells. By combining drive-level power conversion with real-time control loops, it converts line power into controlled motion for pick-and-place stages, feeders, and winding stations. This integrated design reduces the need for external motion regulators while supporting repeatable machine cycles. The amplifier can therefore serve as the control and power interface between a host system and a compatible motor.
The power stage accepts a single-phase or three-phase input at 115/230 VAC and operates its control electronics from an external 24 VDC logic supply. Command data is exchanged over the SERCOS fiber-optic bus, while rotor position is returned through a sine encoder feedback channel. The current loop operates at 16 kHz and has a small-signal bandwidth of 2.5 kHz, allowing the drive to respond rapidly to load-side disturbances. Six optically isolated digital inputs and one transistor digital output provide start, inhibit, and status signaling to the host PLC. Continuous output is rated at 6 A rms, while the drive can supply 18 A rms during rapid acceleration to meet short-term torque demands. The separate logic supply allows control communication to remain available independently of the main power-stage input.
Peak-current operation is limited to 0.5 seconds before thermal protection restricts the output. Above the torque-control layer, the position processor updates at 2000 Hz to maintain accurate response to incoming motion commands. The analog setpoint channel provides 14-bit resolution, allowing small command changes to be represented with useful precision. Velocity regulation operates between the current and position loops with a bandwidth of 400 Hz and an update rate of 4000 Hz. This arrangement helps commanded speed changes follow reference ramps with minimal delay. The nested control loops also support coordinated motion applications that require low following error during interpolated moves.
