The CB06551 is a digital servo drive produced by Kollmorgen within the Servostar CD Drives series. As a member of the Compact Drive product family, the unit delivers regulated power to brushless servomotors in automated machinery. It closes current, velocity, and position loops so assembly lines, packaging stations, and pick-and-place gantries can follow precise motion commands. Its compact enclosure simplifies cabinet layout in multi-axis systems and supports integration where panel space is limited.
During continuous duty, the drive supplies 6 A RMS of phase current, while short-term overloads can reach 18 A RMS for up to 0.5 s. Commutation is synchronized with encoder feedback at frequencies up to 400 Hz, allowing accurate electrical angle tracking at elevated motor speeds. The current loop is refreshed at 16 kHz, providing fine torque modulation before commands reach the pulse-width modulation stage. The velocity loop operates at 4 kHz, while the position loop operates at 2 kHz. These loop rates help control following error when mechanical loads change suddenly during rapid acceleration, deceleration, or positioning movements.
The pulse-width modulation carrier operates at 8 kHz, shaping the motor voltage while balancing switching losses and acoustic noise. Real-time command and diagnostic data are exchanged over the SERCOS fiber-optic interface, providing deterministic timing across coordinated axes. Feedback comes from a sine encoder with a differential output level of 1 V peak to peak. The encoder is powered by a regulated 5 VDC supply rated for 250 mA, and its signal lines accept frequencies up to 125 kHz. Internal logic increases the encoder resolution by a factor of 256, supporting smooth motion at low motor speeds. The control electronics receive logic power from a 300 V DC bus, and the commutation logic supports maximum interpolation without external converters. This arrangement allows the drive to process high-resolution feedback while maintaining coordinated control of motor torque, speed, and shaft position.
