The CH063A-13-3305 is a direct-drive rotary motor manufactured by Kollmorgen within the Cartridge DDR Motors series. Delivered as a cartridge assembly that slides over a customer-supplied bearing stack, the unit provides high-precision positioning without belts or gearboxes, simplifying mechanical design in automated packaging cells, semiconductor tools, and material-handling stations. By combining an embedded encoder, thermal sensing, and power terminations in one housing, the motor supplies repeatable torque and position control for indexing tables, electronic assembly tools, and light machining axes.

Power for the stator can be supplied at up to 480 VAC, so a standard three-phase plant feed is adequate for full-speed operation. All external terminations are clustered on a 4 + 2-pole round power plug and a 17-pole round connector for feedback, and each is mounted on a housing with a 90° rotatable interface to suit tight panels. Position data originates from a Hengstler ACURO AD36 encoder that streams over the BiSS protocol, and phase information is resolved internally to support sinusoidal commutation. The enclosure has an IP65 rating, guarding the windings and electronics from dust and low-pressure water jets. Because the cartridge relies on the machine bearings, no integral bearings are included, and torque is transmitted through a split-ring coupling on a 71 mm hollow shaft.

With a frame outside diameter of 188 mm and a pilot diameter of 164.065 mm, the motor centers precisely in a machined pocket and keeps axial runout within servo tolerances. The encoder delivers an incremental signal with 2048 periods per revolution, giving high interpolation density for smooth low-speed motion. A built-in PTC thermistor trips at 155 °C, allowing the drive to remove power before insulation damage occurs. This arrangement helps the motor seat accurately in the mounting pocket, and the thermal cutoff gives the drive a clear signal to stop operation if winding temperature rises too far.
