Product Description:
The BDS5A-210-00000-2102A-020 is an AC servo drive produced by Kollmorgen in the BDS Industrial Servo Drives series. It converts a fixed-voltage single-phase or three-phase input into a switched three-phase output that precisely regulates torque and speed for brushless servomotors used in packaging, material-handling, and indexing machinery. By incorporating current feedback and resolver decoding, the drive functions as the electrical link between the machine controller and the motor shaft, enabling coordinated, closed-loop motion within automated cells.
The drive can deliver a continuous phase current of 10.0 A RMS, which is the steady-state conduction level that the power stage can sustain without overheating. This current limit pairs with a continuous apparent power capability of 4.0 kVA, allowing moderately sized servomotors to run at rated load. The drive operates from a 225 to 360 VDC link; the upper margin supports regenerative events, while the 225 V lower limit helps prevent undervoltage trips. The control electronics use a carrier frequency of 20.0 kHz, and the output transistors commutate at a PWM rate of 10.0 kHz to minimize audible noise. The line input is rated at 230 VAC. The drive draws 10 A per phase and can operate with line-to-line input voltages as low as 160 VAC.
For dynamic moves, the amplifier supplies a peak current of 20.0 A RMS and momentary apparent power of up to 8.0 kVA, providing additional torque for acceleration or load disturbances. Output voltage can reach 253 VAC line-to-line during these bursts, so the cabling and motor insulation must accommodate the elevated electrical stress. Internally, the unit dissipates 75 W, which must be considered when sizing panel cooling airflow. Eight digital I/O terminals support start, fault-reset, and handshake signals. A resolver channel excites the transducer at 8.5 kHz and resolves shaft position with a resolver-to-digital accuracy of 8 arc-minutes.
