Product Description:
The BDS5-1/032-OPT-1-1 servo drive belongs to the BDS Industrial Servo Drives series from Kollmorgen. Designed for panel-mounted motion systems, the unit conditions incoming single-phase power, shapes pulse-width-modulated output, and processes feedback so a matched servo motor can follow precise position or velocity commands in automated machinery, packaging lines, and material-handling cells. It incorporates both analog and serial interfaces so integrators can link it to legacy PLCs or modern host controllers.
The drive accepts a command signal through an ±10 V differential analog channel, aligning with its analog input classification. For logic coordination, the controller provides 23 opto-isolated discrete inputs that accommodate limit switches, mode selections, or fault resets, and it returns status to the PLC over 10 discrete transistor outputs. A built-in serial port supports diagnostics at rates from 300 baud up to 19,200 baud; it uses an 8-bit ASCII data format with no parity and can operate with either the RS-232 or RS-485 standard. High-speed capture logic supports synchronization with external encoders, and the internal PWM stage modulates at 10.0 kHz while maintaining an RMS-to-average current form factor no greater than 1.01.
The power section draws 115 VAC, converts it to a DC link, and delivers phase-aligned pulses with motor current ripple occurring at 20.0 kHz, helping to keep audible noise low while preserving torque linearity. Captured position events are timestamped with ±25 µs precision and can be exported through the front-panel 9-pin DB-9 connector to supervisory software without disturbing motion. Resolver feedback is energized at 8.5 kHz, a carrier frequency that balances noise immunity with transformer isolation on long cables. This feedback arrangement supports controlled motion in indexing tables, feeders, and compact actuators used throughout automated equipment.
