The AKM42S-GCSN2-02 is a compact, environmentally friendly and high torque-producing synchronous motor unit designed to meet the power requirements of industrial machines. This motor unit is from Kollmorgen Automation internationally renowned for its ability to produce up to 47 per cent more shaft power than other motor units belonging to the same size class. This motor unit is also an exceptionally low-cogging device that can provide smooth motion and produce a very low amount of noise when operating at low operation speed. The housing of this motor unit is designed to withstand rugged environmental conditions; it provides protection according to IP65, allowing the motor to function at the highest performance level in the presence of dust and water splashes. The frame size of this motor unit is about 84 millimeters; it also features a shaft equipped with a keyway to allow for smooth torque transmission.

The AKM42S-GCSN2-02 motor unit requires connection to a compatible drive controller to monitor and control its operation. The AKD drive controller series is recommended to be used with the motor. No holding brake is integrated into this motor unit; however it features a encoder single turn feedback unit with a maximum resolution of about 8192 bits, and an accuracy of ±1 arc-mins.

The AKM42S-GCSN2-02 features an electrically isolated PTC type thermal sensor; these sensors help operators to monitor and control the heat generated in the motor when it is in operation. At a maximum input current supply of 19.2 amperes, this motor produces a torque of about 11.5 newton meters and can reach a peak speed of 6000 revolutions per minute. The maximum rated voltage for the unit is also about 480 volts.
