The AKM54K-BKCNDA-00 is a Kollmorgen-built synchronous servo motor that belongs to the AKM Synchronous Servo Motors series. Within an automation cell, the unit converts commanded current into precisely regulated rotary motion, making it suitable for indexing tables, pick-and-place axes, or packaging spindles where repeatable speed and position are needed. The model is supplied without a holding brake, so static loads must be managed through drive torque or an external locking device. This arrangement is appropriate for machinery that already includes a separate means of securing the driven axis when power is removed.
Power and feedback leave the housing through two SpeedTec Ready connectors. This connector arrangement simplifies cable routing while preserving shielding continuity between the motor and drive. Shaft position is measured with a resolution of 512/2048 lines per revolution generated by the EnDat 2.1 encoder, and the high line count supports fine velocity control and smooth low-speed rotation. The encoder uses single-turn optical sensing, which is suitable for applications that perform a homing routine at startup rather than track position across multiple revolutions. A NEMA flange simplifies mounting to gearboxes or machine plates that follow North American dimensional standards. The scanning head follows the ECN1113/1313 format, providing compatibility with Kollmorgen drives that support the applicable encoder communication protocol. Output torque passes through an open keyway on the shaft, allowing positive engagement with pulleys, rigid hubs, and other keyed couplings. The magnetic stack has a depth index of 4, and its combination with the K winding designation establishes the electrical characteristics used by the drive for current regulation. These characteristics include the current density and back electromotive force constants needed for accurate motor control. Proper drive parameters allow the current loops to regulate torque consistently during acceleration, steady-speed operation, and controlled deceleration.
