The AKM54-SSSNR-02 is a brushless servo motor produced by Kollmorgen and supplied within the AKM Synchronous Servo Motors series. In automated machinery, the unit converts drive current into tightly regulated torque and position. This capability allows machine builders to synchronize axes, index conveyors, and control tooling paths with high repeatability while maintaining a compact drive-system footprint.
With a 108 mm square frame, the motor fits midrange gearboxes while maintaining a compact mounting envelope. Position sensing relies on a resolver with a two-pole feedback configuration and an inductive excitation method. This feedback architecture tolerates electrical noise and provides the rotor position during each revolution. The feedback is single-turn, so the drive resolves the shaft angle within one mechanical rotation. Accuracy is supported by the size 10/15/21 pickup, which mounts directly on the rear bearing carrier. A special winding set adjusts the voltage and current constants for compatibility with KAS and AKD controllers without requiring an oversized power stage.
The motor uses a special flange pattern and a shaft with Kollmorgen’s special keying, allowing machine builders to attach pulleys or couplings without intermediate hubs. The active steel has a rotor length index of 4, providing higher continuous torque density than shorter configurations in the same frame. Power and feedback conductors exit through a special connector that minimizes plug height in machines with sliding doors or rotating tables. Because the motor is supplied without a brake, a vertical axis must be secured by an external clamp or held by motor current during standby. The lack of a brake also reduces reflected inertia and eliminates maintenance associated with internal brake friction elements.
