Product Description:
The AKM24D-BNBN2-01 is a brushless servo motor developed by Kollmorgen as part of the AKM Synchronous Servo Motors series. This rotary actuator converts drive current into tightly controlled torque and speed for positioning axes in packaging machines, pick-and-place gantries, and similar motion platforms used throughout industrial automation. By combining a compact design with a dynamic response, it helps reduce the required installation space while providing repeatable submillimeter accuracy in closed-loop servo systems.
This model is built on a 58 mm square frame, so it connects directly to gearboxes and machinery that follow the AKM mounting pattern. A NEMA-compliant flange simplifies alignment because the pilot and bolt circles follow an industry standard. Rotor length index 4 provides a deeper magnetic stack for higher continuous torque without enlarging the footprint. Coil selection follows the D winding, allowing the drive to apply rated current at common 230 V DC bus levels. Power and feedback are routed through two SpeedTec-ready connectors, which use a keyed design to support fast, toolless coupling. Torque is transmitted through a smooth shaft, and a shaft seal blocks coolant or dust at that interface. The motor is supplied without a brake, so holding torque must be furnished by the drive or an external stop when the axis is de-energized.
Position feedback is delivered by a Comcoder, Kollmorgen’s compact optical encoder integrated within the housing. It supplies 2,048 lines per revolution, and interpolation by the drive provides high-resolution velocity and position loops. The sensing element uses single-turn optical measurement, eliminating the need for battery-backed multi-turn tracking when the machine establishes its reference position at power-up. Encoder timing and index marks follow the EPC 15T format, allowing Kollmorgen drives to recognize the encoder through the Smart Feedback Device protocol. The integrated encoder provides the drive with the rotor position data needed for electronic commutation and accurate closed-loop motion control.
