Product Description:
The AKM23D-EFMN2-00 servo motor is produced by Kollmorgen and belongs to the AKM Synchronous Servo Motors series. This brushless permanent-magnet unit is intended for closed-loop motion axes in packaging machinery, pick-and-place robots, indexing tables, and gantry stages where precise velocity and position control are required. It converts sinusoidal stator currents from a digital drive into smooth rotary torque for repeatable, high-cycle industrial automation tasks. Electronic commutation allows the connected drive to regulate motor torque without the brushes and mechanical commutator used in conventional DC motors.
The motor is supplied without a brake, so the application must rely on external mechanical holding or drive torque when power is removed. Its feedback subsystem is a Comcoder device that provides incremental and absolute position information to the servo drive. The incremental track measures shaft position at 2048 lines/rev, enabling fine position interpolation for accurate motion control. The absolute portion uses a single-turn optical encoder, allowing the drive to identify the shaft position within one mechanical revolution after a power cycle. The feedback interface uses the EPC 15T signal format for electrical compatibility with supported Kollmorgen drives. The stator has a D winding, which provides the resistance and inductance characteristics required by compatible medium-voltage, medium-current amplifiers.
With a frame side length of 58 mm, the motor fits compact mounting patterns while providing sufficient housing mass for heat dissipation during continuous operation. The small frame is suitable for closely spaced machine axes where mounting space is limited and controlled acceleration is important. This build uses standard customization, with the baseline housing, shaft, and connector arrangement for this motor model. The active magnetic stack has rotor length index 3, providing a balance between peak torque capability and rotor inertia for responsive acceleration. Its physical arrangement supports installation in automated equipment that requires a compact motor with integrated position feedback and smooth torque delivery.
