Product Description:
The AKM21C-ESDNC-02 is a brushless permanent-magnet motor produced by Kollmorgen for the AKM Synchronous Servo Motors series. It converts controlled stator currents into precise rotary motion for indexing tables, Cartesian robots, and other position-critical axes in automated machinery. The compact square flange and low rotor inertia support installation in space-restricted machine frames while allowing responsive acceleration. Its integrated feedback interface supplies the position and commutation information needed by a compatible servo drive for closed-loop motion control.
The motor has a 58 mm frame dimension that supports attachment to compatible planetary gearboxes and mounting adapters. Its electromagnetic package uses winding designation C, which provides the resistance, inductance, and rated-current characteristics associated with this coil arrangement. A rotor length index of 1 indicates the shortest magnetic stack available in the 21 frame, favoring rapid acceleration in applications with moderate torque demand. The motor is supplied without a brake, so an external holding device or drive-generated torque is required when the shaft must remain stationary after power is removed. Position feedback is provided by the SFD system, an embedded resolver-based device that sends absolute position and commutation data to compatible Kollmorgen AKD drives over a digital connection. This arrangement allows the controller to monitor rotor position without adding a separate external feedback device.
The feedback channel uses 4 lines to transmit position and commutation information while maintaining reliable signal transfer in electrically noisy industrial environments. A single-turn inductive feedback track provides absolute position within one mechanical revolution, while the connected controller manages any required multi-turn counting. The motor has a special shaft with a machining pattern intended for compatible custom hubs or torque couplings. Power, encoder, and brake wiring are consolidated in one i-tec Hybrid or SpeedTec Ready Hybrid connector, reducing the number of separate cable connections at the motor. The sensor assembly follows the Size 10/15/21 format and accommodates matching Kollmorgen connection and sealing components without increasing the motor envelope.
