The AKM21C-CKMNAA-00 is a compact synchronous servo motor manufactured by Kollmorgen for the AKM Synchronous Servo Motors series. It converts electrical input into controlled rotary output for positioning, indexing, and coordinated-motion axes in packaging equipment, electronic assembly stations, and light machine tools. Its permanent-magnet construction works with Kollmorgen digital drives to provide high-bandwidth torque and speed regulation within a small mechanical envelope. The compact housing allows the motor to fit into machinery where available installation space is limited.
The motor frame measures 58 mm square, and the mounting face uses alternative flange variant C, which mates with gearheads or brackets that share the same pattern. Rotor position is detected by an optical encoder that supplies a base resolution of 2048 lines per revolution. Signals are serialized over the BiSS B encoder interface, providing noise-resistant, real-time feedback to the controller. The single-turn optical encoder reports the absolute mechanical angle within one revolution without relying on batteries or gear trains. The feedback hardware follows the AD34/AD58 standard, allowing cabling and pin assignments to remain consistent with compatible AKM motor connections. This feedback arrangement gives the drive the position data needed to regulate commutation, shaft speed, and commanded movement.
Output torque is transmitted through an open-keyway shaft that provides positive engagement with compatible couplings. The electrical characteristics follow winding designation C, which establishes the resistance, inductance, and back-EMF constants expected by compatible medium-voltage servo amplifiers. The magnetic stack uses rotor length index 1, the shortest rotor available in the size 2 frame, resulting in low inertia for rapid acceleration. Reduced rotor inertia helps the shaft respond quickly during frequent starts, stops, and direction changes. The motor is supplied without a brake, so an electrical holding function or external clamp is required when the shaft must remain stationary after power is removed. Loads that can move under gravity or external force therefore require a separate means of restraint during a power interruption.
