The AKT-ECT-000-000 bus coupler is manufactured by Kollmorgen within the AKT IO Terminals series. As an EtherCAT interface module, it connects remote I/O slices to the real-time network of a motion controller and supplies field power at the first position of a DIN rail I/O station used in packaging machines, conveyors, or assembly cells. It converts the internal terminal signal level to the EtherCAT protocol so that digital and analog sensors or actuators can be polled at deterministic cycle rates without external gateways.
The EtherCAT interface operates at a line speed of 100 MBaud, which is the standard bitrate for EtherCAT. The coupler uses 2 x RJ-45 ports in an in/out topology, so additional stations can be daisy-chained without switches. When the master requests ten 32-bit process words, the coupler returns the data in 0.01 ms, enabling deterministic sub-millisecond control loops.
