Product Description:
The ACS8015-330F is an AC SuperDrive Motion Unit manufactured by Kollmorgen for the AC SuperDrive Motion Units series. The module functions as a compact inverter that converts a battery-supplied DC rail into regulated three-phase power, letting mobile robots, utility vehicles, and factory machines vary motor speed and torque under software control. By combining power electronics with fieldbus communication in one sealed housing, it allows machine builders to mount the drive close to the motor and coordinate motion over a single CAN line.
Electrical operation begins with a nominal bus voltage of 80 VDC, while the permitted range extends from 56 VDC to 104 VDC. This range accommodates the discharge, boost, and regenerative conditions found in 72–96 V battery packs. At its continuous rating, the inverter supplies 150 Arms and provides 14.1 kVA of motor power for one-hour duty cycles before reaching its thermal limits. Thermal supervision activates when the finned heat sink reaches 85 °C, at which point the current is reduced to protect the semiconductors. The unit measures 116 mm in height and weighs 5.9 kg, allowing it to fit inside crowded enclosures. Control and I/O signals reach the electronics through a rugged 23-pin AMPseal connector, and CANopen frames travel over an ISO 11898-compliant physical layer.
For transient events, the drive increases its output to 330 Arms and 31.1 kVA for up to two minutes, providing surge capacity for acceleration, lifting, or sudden steering loads. A switching frequency of 8 kHz balances audible noise and current ripple, maintaining smooth torque even at low electrical speeds. The enclosure has an IP54 rating, providing protection against dust ingress and water spray during outdoor operation. The controller reports real-time voltage, current, and temperature data over CANopen. Its finned heat sink uses a current rollback strategy to protect the power electronics during high-temperature operation, while the ISO-based bus supports consistent communication with the connected control network.
