Product Description:
The ACS4820-700C is a motion drive module produced by Kollmorgen within the AC SuperDrive Motion Units series. Designed for servo and traction motors in automated machinery, the unit converts a low-voltage DC bus into controlled three-phase output and coordinates torque demand through embedded control logic. By integrating the power stage, network interface, and thermal management into one enclosure, it streamlines cabinet layouts and provides a scalable axis controller for mobile equipment, conveyors, and gantry systems.
Electrical compatibility centers on a nominal bus voltage of 48 VDC, while transient events up to 67.2 VDC for less than 100 µs are tolerated, and brief dips down to 24 VDC for under 50 ms do not trigger a shutdown. Current is switched at 8 kHz, limiting ripple and acoustic noise, and motion commands enter over the CANopen protocol for deterministic network traffic. The control I/O arrives through an AMPseal 23-position 770680-1 plug, simplifying the use of sealed harnesses. Cooling is handled by a flat heat sink that must be mounted on a surface held within a flatness of 0.1 mm across the 270 × 302 mm footprint and finished to Ra 1.6 to maintain thermal contact. With a vertical dimension of 91 mm, the housing fits shallow panels, and its IP54 rating protects the electronics against dust and water spray.
For sustained loads, the drive can deliver 300 A RMS for one hour, corresponding to 16.5 kVA of apparent power on the motor leads. Short accelerations are supported by a two-minute capacity of 700 A RMS, which raises output to 38.6 kVA without exceeding device temperature limits. The 8.0 kg housing supplies thermal inertia, while enclosure gasketing helps maintain the IP54 seal during operation. The sealed enclosure supports direct installation on mobile equipment where vibration and airborne moisture are common.
