The ACD4802-S4 is a compact AC motion drive produced by Kollmorgen within the AC SuperDrive Motion Units series. Designed to regulate torque and speed on brushless servomotors, the device converts power from a DC bus into a three-phase output so automated conveyors, gantries, and material-handling axes can be positioned accurately in industrial cells. The integrated drive control and power electronics reduce panel wiring in distributed automation architectures. This arrangement also allows the module to control motor output without requiring a separate external power stage.
The drive operates from a nominal bus voltage of 48 V, which is commonly available from low-voltage power supplies and is suitable for machinery that must meet safety extra-low-voltage requirements. Under steady loads, it can deliver up to 1.3 kVA for one hour without thermal derating during that interval. When rapid indexing or peak torque is required, a short-term output of 3.9 kVA is available for two minutes. Current capability corresponds with these power limits: the inverter supplies a continuous phase current of 23 Arms and can surge to 70 Arms during brief overloads. This additional current allows connected actuators to accelerate quickly before returning to their nominal operating points. Power enters through nickel-plated bus bars secured by M6 bolts, minimizing contact resistance and simplifying wiring within the machine.
Command and diagnostic data move over the CAN interface, allowing the motion controller to exchange operating instructions and status information with the drive. All low-level signal pins are gathered in an AMP SEAL 23-pin connector that locks securely against vibration. The sealed housing has an IP65 protection rating, preventing dust and low-pressure water jets from reaching the control electronics. Installation space remains modest because the aluminum chassis is only 61.3 mm high. The assembly weighs 1.4 kg, which eases placement on moving carriages or inside crowded cabinets. Its sealed enclosure permits installation close to the motor without requiring an additional protective enclosure.
