The SM 45-M-3000-G is a synchronous servo motor produced by Kollmorgen for the 6SM Synchronous Servo Motors series. Intended for closed-loop motion axes in packaging machines, pick-and-place gantries, and similar automation equipment, the unit converts electrical energy into controlled rotary torque that the drive regulates through resolver feedback. Its compact 45 mm frame size supports direct mounting in machines with limited space.
The motor is powered by a three-phase 400 VAC supply, and the stator delivers a continuous mechanical output of 0.5 kW at this voltage. Under rated conditions, the shaft maintains 3000 rpm while drawing only 1.3 A, producing 1.6 Nm of torque with a phase resistance of 34 Ω. The eight-slot winding has an inductance of 99 mH, giving a smooth current rise and allowing drives to use modest PWM switching frequencies. Six motor poles pair with a two-pole resolver to provide position feedback with suitable electrical angle resolution. A torque constant of 1.36 Nm/A and a voltage constant of 116 V per 1000 rpm relate the electrical variables to the mechanical output, simplifying velocity-loop tuning.

This dynamic margin is assisted by the modest rotor inertia of 2.1 kg·cm², which lets the axis accelerate quickly without excessive drive current. A 1.7 Nm standstill holding capability keeps vertical loads from drifting when motion is disabled, and a fail-safe brake engages at 24 VDC to secure the shaft during power loss. Heat absorption is characterized by a thermal time constant of 20 minutes, so duty cycles that exceed the continuous operating range can be evaluated over this period to prevent overtemperature trips. The motor can support indexing tables and medium-speed packaging mandrels that require responsive acceleration, stable feedback, and secure load holding during a power interruption.
