Product Description:
The 6SM 56-S-3000-G belongs to the 6SM Synchronous Servo Motors series produced by Kollmorgen. As a permanent-magnet servo motor, it delivers closed-loop speed and position control for packaging stations, pick-and-place gantries, and other automated axes that need rapid acceleration combined with precise repeatability. The integrated resolver supplies continuous rotor-angle feedback to the drive so that the controller can modulate torque in real time during demanding motion profiles.
This model outputs 1.13 kW of mechanical power while spinning at a nominal rate of 3000 rpm. At that operating point, it produces a shaft torque of 3.6 Nm, and the drive must supply a continuous phase current of 2.9 A to reach that torque. The electromagnetic design provides a torque constant of 1.33 Nm/A, which allows load response to be estimated from the commanded current without additional calibration. A two-pole hollow-shaft resolver maintains position feedback at very low speeds, where incremental encoders may provide limited feedback. The winding resistance is 9.4 Ω, and the inductance is 54.0 mH; these parameters influence current-loop bandwidth and drive tuning. Motor heating is supervised through a 145 °C thermal contact that trips the drive when the winding temperature approaches its permitted limit.
When power is removed, a holding brake rated at 12 Nm secures vertical or suspended loads, and its 18 W coil can be driven directly from a typical 24 V control supply. The motor has an IP65 protection rating, sealing the frame against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets so that no additional enclosure is needed on most factory floors. The motor has a 20-minute thermal time constant, which supports intermittent overloads without excessive temperature rise. Rotor response is influenced by an inertia of 5.2 kgcm², providing a balance between rapid speed changes and mechanical stability. A standstill torque of 3.8 Nm allows the energized motor to hold a static load without applying the holding brake. The brake can then secure the shaft after motor power is removed, preventing suspended loads from moving unexpectedly.
