The 6SM 56-L3000 is one of the most sophisticated and precise synchronous motor designs available for use with industrial applications. The motor is manufactured by Kollmorgen Automation to serve as a reliable source of kinetic energy for demanding servo applications. During operation, the motor is only compatible with the SERVOSTAR drive controller, also manufactured by Kollmorgen. Although heat dissipation already occurs via an efficient process of natural convection or thermal radiation through the ribbed housing of the motor, operators can decide to increase the temperature capacity of the motor by ordering it with a separately driven fan. This fan can also be requested to be retrofitted. There is a temperature sensor present in the motor winding, which helps the drive controller monitor the motor temperature and protect the motor from any risk of overheating.
The 6SM 56-L3000 industrial motor contains a three-phase winding, it also includes an electronic commutation which helps it to undergo highly dynamic application which maintaining low inertia. There is a RAL 9005 black coating covering the housing of this servo motor; this coating protects the motor against yellowing and rust caused by liquids such as dilute acids, dilute alkali, mineral oil, and water. However, the coating is not resistant to solvents like nitro-thinners and trichloroethylene.
The 6SM 56-L3000 industrial motor can be used at a relative humidity level as high as 85 per cent however, it can not withstand water condensation. The motor is fitted with rectangular connectors for resolver signals and terminal boxes for the power supply. The mating connectors are not part of the motor's delivery package; however, they can be ordered separately. There is also a two-pole hollow-shaft resolver integrated with this motor design.
