The 6SM 45-S-3000 is a brushless synchronous servo motor produced by Kollmorgen within the 6SM Synchronous Servo Motors series. This compact rotary actuator converts electrical energy into tightly regulated motion for indexing tables, pick-and-place axes, and other closed-loop automation tasks. By using permanent-magnet excitation, the motor offers high torque density in a modest frame size, giving machine builders a direct-drive option where precise speed and position control are required.

Connection to a three-phase bus is made through a stator winding designed for 400 V operation, so standard factory power can supply the motor without a step-up transformer. Under continuous load, the phase current remains at 1.4 A, producing a nameplate output of 0.25 kW. At this operating point, the shaft rotates at 3000 rpm and delivers 0.8 Nm of torque, making the motor suitable for mid-range positioning axes. Transient demands can be met with a peak phase current of 4.7 A, while short-term holding conditions use a standstill current of 1.3 A. The motor has a phase inductance of 54.0 mH and a phase resistance of 25.4 Ω, which the drive uses for current-loop tuning. With a torque constant of 0.68 Nm/A, the controller can predict mechanical output directly from measured current.

The motor supports axial loads up to 120 N and radial forces up to 370 N on the shaft bearings, allowing direct coupling to pulleys or light gearheads. Rotor inertia is limited to 1.5 kg·cm², enabling rapid acceleration without excessive drive current. At zero speed, the unit can provide 0.85 Nm of holding torque and reaches thermal equilibrium over a 15-minute time constant, permitting repetitive indexing without overheating. The housing has a mass of 4.5 kg, which aids heat absorption while keeping the motor manageable during installation.
