Product Description:
Kollmorgen produces the 6SM 37L-4.000-J, a synchronous servo motor in the 6SM Synchronous Servo Motors series. This compact rotary unit delivers precise closed-loop motion in automated machinery where repeatable velocity and torque are critical. By combining permanent-magnet excitation with a stator optimized for high power density, the motor converts three-phase electrical energy into controlled shaft rotation. It is suitable for indexing tables, packaging axes, and light material-handling stations that require accurate positioning and responsive speed control.
During continuous duty, the unit produces 0.5 kW while maintaining a shaft speed of 4000 rpm under nominal load. The motor develops 1.2 Nm of rated torque from a three-phase input of 400 to 460 V, a range used by many industrial inverter supplies. Continuous electrical demand is 1.5 A RMS, while transient motion profiles can draw up to 6.4 A to overcome inertia and accelerate connected loads. A voltage constant of 58 V per 1000 rpm relates back electromotive force to speed, while the 30 mH phase inductance helps filter switching ripple. The phase resistance is 15.5 Ω, and the torque constant of 0.96 Nm/A relates phase current to the torque produced by the motor.
At zero speed, the motor can hold 1.5 Nm without exceeding a standstill winding current of 1.6 A, supporting static positioning tasks. The shaft seal and housing have an IP65 protection rating, preventing dust and low-pressure water jets from reaching internal components during washdown or exposure to cutting fluid. The allowable radial load reaches 270 N at the nominal overhang point, permitting direct belt or pinion mounting without auxiliary bearings. Dynamic response is supported by a rotor inertia of 1.0 kg·cm², which helps the motor respond quickly during repeated acceleration and deceleration. A 15-minute thermal time constant indicates how rapidly winding temperature changes during start-stop operating cycles.
