Product Description:

The 17.Z2.F04-1003 is a passive three-phase motor choke produced by KEB within the Z2 Three Phase Motor Chokes series. Positioned between a frequency inverter and an AC motor, the choke adds inductance to the output circuit so that differential current peaks are flattened and electromagnetic emissions are reduced. By smoothing the current waveform, it protects motor insulation and minimizes harmonic feedback into the power supply in general industrial automation assemblies. Its passive design does not require a separate control supply or communication connection, allowing it to operate directly within the motor power circuit.

The choke has an inductance of 0.219 mH, which limits the rate of current change without causing excessive voltage drop. It carries a continuous phase current of 42 A, allowing drive outputs of up to approximately 38 kW to be filtered without saturation. Its operating line voltage is rated at 400 VAC, matching the common three-phase power used by European production machinery. Under nominal load, the internal copper and iron generate 115 W of power loss, and this heat must be removed through natural convection inside the cabinet. When connected, the device imposes a relative voltage drop of 20 % across its terminals, which must be considered when setting the inverter’s intermediate-circuit voltage.

The choke supports motor-side output frequencies up to 1600 Hz and tolerates carrier frequencies as high as 16 kHz, keeping its impedance nearly constant across that range. The maximum system voltage is 550 V, providing headroom for regenerative overvoltage events. The laminated core measures 232 mm wide, 255 mm deep, and 180 mm high, while the complete assembly weighs 10.0 kg. Conductors with cross-sectional areas of up to 16 mm² connect through RK 16/35 line terminals. The phase terminal lugs require a tightening torque of 4 Nm, while the protective earth stud accepts a tightening torque of 10 Nm. These terminal capacities and enclosure dimensions must be considered when arranging cabinet clearances, cable routing, mounting supports, and natural airflow around the choke.
