The SM 56-S-4000-G is a synchronous servo motor produced by KEB within the SM Synchronous Servo Motors series. Designed for industrial automation, the unit converts electrical commands from a servo drive into controlled mechanical rotation for indexing tables, feeders, and small gantry axes. Its closed-loop operation supports precise velocity and position control in packaging equipment, electronics assembly systems, and other motion-focused machinery. The compact motor is suited to applications that require responsive movement and consistent positioning during repetitive production cycles.
During continuous operation, the motor runs at a rated speed of 4000 rpm and delivers a nominal shaft torque of 3.2 Nm. The stator draws a rated current of 9.0 A, while the drive supplies a line-to-line voltage of 240 V. During rapid acceleration, the current can rise to 49.5 A, allowing the axis to overcome friction and inertial loads without stalling. These electrical values determine the heat that the laminated stator and housing must dissipate during operation. They also support the selection of compatible drive protection, motor cables, and cabinet ventilation for the installation.
At zero speed, the winding can produce a holding torque of 3.8 Nm when a standstill current of 10.2 A is applied, providing static retention for indexing shafts.
