The A4.SM.001-645H is a synchronous servo motor produced by KEB for the SM Synchronous Servo Motors series. In industrial automation, this brushless AC unit works with a compatible drive to perform position and velocity control for packaging, pick-and-place, and material-handling axes. By combining rotor magnets with stator windings in a compact frame, the motor delivers rapid torque response while maintaining the speed accuracy required for closed-loop motion tasks in machines with frequent starts, stops, and directional changes.
The stator dissipates heat through a self-cooling airflow path, so no external blower or liquid cooling circuit is required. Ingress protection is rated at IP54, allowing operation in locations where dust accumulation and minor water splashes may occur. The motor supports a top speed of 6000 rpm, providing sufficient speed for fast machine cycles before field weakening occurs. Its windings are designed for a bus voltage of 330 V when used with a 400 V class inverter, which corresponds to a 560 V DC link for regenerative energy exchange during braking. Positional feedback comes from the Sin/Cos encoder ERN 1188, which produces high-resolution sine and cosine signals that the controller can interpolate for precise commutation, speed regulation, and shaft-position tracking.
Mounting uses a B5 IFT5-compatible flange pattern, allowing the motor to bolt directly to gearboxes or machine frames that use the corresponding metric footprint. The unit includes a holding brake that keeps the axis stationary during a power loss and helps prevent vertical loads from drifting when motor torque is unavailable. Torque is transmitted through a shaft with a feather key, providing positive engagement with keyed couplings and supporting accurate alignment between the motor shaft and the driven component.
